V. Narayanan, Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), has been appointed the new Chairman of ISRO, effective January 14, 2025.
He succeeds S. Somanath, who led landmark missions like Chandrayaan-3, Aditya L1, and Gaganyaan’s developmental flight.
Professional Background:
A renowned rocket and spacecraft propulsion expert, he joined ISRO in 1984.
Worked on solid propulsion systems for early rockets like the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) and the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
Played a critical role in ISRO’s geostationary launch vehicles, including GSLV Mk-II and GSLV Mk-III.
Chaired the National Expert Committee to study the Chandrayaan-2 lander issues and developed solutions for Chandrayaan-3’s propulsion systems.
