SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas)
Launched in April 2020 by the Union government under the Panchayati Raj Ministry, the Svamitva scheme aims to digitize property records in rural areas, establishing clear ownership rights.
It is a scheme for mapping the land parcels in rural inhabited areas using drone technology and Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS).
Benefits:
The scheme will help in streamlining planning and revenue collection in rural areas and ensuring clarity on property rights.
The scheme will enable creation of better-quality Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs), using the maps created under this programme.
The Gram Panchayats are constitutionally mandated for preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) for economic development and social justice.
Facilitates property owners in rural areas to access bank loans by providing official property records.
Helps in reducing conflicts over land ownership by clearly recording property rights.
Empowers women by establishing ownership rights in many cases.
Progress:
Over 2.19 crore property cards have been finalized, including the recent distribution.
92% of the drone mapping has been completed, covering approximately 3.17 lakh of the 3.44 lakh targeted villages.
The scheme aims to complete its targets by 2026.
