India and Kuwait signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen defense ties. It includes:
Exchange of defense personnel.
Joint military exercises.
Supply of military equipment.
The relationship between India and Kuwait was elevated to a "strategic partnership" during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.
Discussions between Modi and Kuwait's leadership focused on: Pharmaceuticals, IT, fintech, infrastructure, and security.
Economic and Investment Links:
Strengthening economic ties and new investment opportunities in sectors like energy, defense, medical devices, pharma, and food parks.
Invitation for Kuwaiti Investment Authority to visit India.
In addition to defense, two other MoUs were signed on:
Cultural exchange.
Sports cooperation.
New Joint Working Groups (JWGs) were established in areas like trade, investment, education, technology, agriculture, and security, complementing existing groups on health, manpower, and hydrocarbons.
Modi was awarded Kuwait’s highest honor, the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order, recognizing the strong friendship between India and Kuwait.
This visit was significant as it was Modi’s first to Kuwait, a country that has maintained a long-standing friendly policy towards India.
