South Korean lawmakers impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed martial law attempt.
Opposition parties declared this a "victory of the people."
Yoon attempted to impose martial law on December 3, leading to political drama and public protests.
Rival rallies were held in Seoul, with hundreds of thousands participating both in support of and against Yoon.
Around 200,000 people protested outside parliament in favor of removing the President.
Out of 300 lawmakers, 204 voted to impeach and 85 voted against.
3 abstained, and 8 votes were nullified.
200 votes were needed for the impeachment to pass.
Yoon is suspended from office as the Constitutional Court deliberates on the impeachment.
The court has 180 days to decide on Yoon's future.
If upheld, Yoon will be the second president in South Korean history to be impeached.
The President of India can be removed from office by a process of impeachment for 'violation of the Constitution' (Article 61)
However, the Constitution does not define the meaning of the phrase 'violation of the Constitution'.
The impeachment charges can be initiated by either House of Parliament.
These charges should be signed by one-fourth of members of the House (that framed the charges), and a 14 days' notice should be given to the President.
No President has so far been impeached in India
