Two new undersea cable systems, India Asia Xpress (IAX) and India Europe Xpress (IEX), are being launched to expand India’s internet connectivity to Asia and Europe.
IAX and IEX
India Asia Xpress (IAX): Connects Chennai and Mumbai to Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
India Europe Xpress (IEX): Connects Chennai and Mumbai to France, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Djibouti.
Both cables, spanning over 15,000 kilometers, are owned by Reliance Jio with investment from China Mobile.

In March, three cables connecting India to Europe and West Asia were disrupted, highlighting vulnerabilities in global internet connectivity.
Ensuring that Indian services remain stable even in case of disruptions is a key concern, prompting India’s involvement in global discussions on cable resilience.
Bangladesh’s decision to delay bandwidth sales to Northeast India had minimal impact, as alternative routes already serve the region.
