Researchers from the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) have discovered five new species of Darwin wasps in India and Thailand.
This is the first documentation of the Microleptinae subfamily of Darwin wasps in India, expanding the understanding of this species in the region.
Darwin wasp
The Ichneumonidae, also known as Darwin wasps, are a family of parasitoid wasps of the insect order Hymenoptera.
They are one of the most diverse groups within the Hymenoptera with roughly 25,000 species described as of 2016
They play an important role as regulators of insect populations, both in natural and semi-natural systems, making them promising agents for biological control.
