Thadou community
The Thadous are one of the largest and oldest non-Naga indigenous tribes of Manipur.
They are recognized as a distinct indigenous community in Manipur and were included as a Scheduled Tribe under the 1956 Presidential Order by the Government of India.
The Thadous are considered one of the 29 native tribes of Manipur and have a long history in the region.
They speak Chin and Thado which belong to the Tibeto-Burman family of the Sino-Tibetan languages.
Other names: Chillya, Kuki, Kukihin, Teizang and Theruvan.
The god Pathen is believed by the Thadou to have created everything
The Hun-Thadou cultural festival is an annual celebration of this community which is celebrated at the arrival of the New Year.
