The Centre has introduced telecom cyber security rules to protect India's communication networks and services.
The rules
Telecom companies must report security incidents within six hours, providing details about the affected system.
They must also share information on the number of affected users, the impact on services, and remedial actions within 24 hours.
The rules require telecom companies to appoint a Chief Telecommunication Security Officer.
Manufacturers must register the IMEI numbers of devices produced in India with the government before their first sale.
The rules also allow the government to access traffic and other data (excluding message content) for cyber security purposes.
