Why in news
A Russian Soyuz rocket successfully launched two Iranian satellites into orbit from Vostochny, Russia.
The launch reflects increasing cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in space and military sectors.
The two Iranian satellites (Kowsar and Hodhod) are the first to be launched by Iran's private sector.
Russia had previously launched other Iranian satellites, including Khayyam (2022) and Pars-1 (2024).
Russia and Iran are working towards a "comprehensive strategic partnership" to further strengthen their ties.
Iran has reportedly provided Russia with drones used in Ukraine, although both countries deny this.
