President Vladimir Putin signed a new nuclear doctrine, stating that a conventional attack on Russia supported by a nuclear power will be treated as a joint attack.
The doctrine update comes after U.S. President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles.
What is Nuclear Doctrine of India
India’s nuclear doctrine is centered around a commitment to "No First Use,"(NFU) meaning India will only use nuclear weapons in retaliation if attacked with them first.
The doctrine was formally adopted in January, 2003, and says that nuclear weapons will only be used in retaliation against a nuclear attack on Indian territory or on Indian forces anywhere.
Key principles include massive retaliation to a nuclear attack, ensuring unacceptable damage to the aggressor, and strict civilian control through the Nuclear Command Authority (NCA)
India maintains a posture of having a small but sufficient nuclear arsenal, ensuring it can deter any nuclear attack on its territory.
India ensures that its nuclear arsenal remains secure and survivable, allowing for a retaliatory strike even after an initial attack.
