India’s milk production increased by 3.78% in 2023-24 over the previous year.
Estimated total milk production: 239.3 million tonnes.
10-year growth rate: 5.62%, up from 146.3 million tonnes in 2014-15.
India is the world’s largest milk producer.
Top Milk Producing States (2023-24)
Uttar Pradesh: 16.21% of total milk production.
Rajasthan: 14.51% > Madhya Pradesh: 8.91% > Gujarat: 7.65% > Maharashtra: 6.71%.
West Bengal: Recorded the highest annual growth in milk production (9.76%).
Egg Production (2023-24)
Estimated egg production: 142.77 billion.
6.8%, up from 78.48 billion in 2014-15.
Annual growth: 3.18% increase over 2022-23.
Andhra Pradesh: Largest egg producer (17.85% share) > Tamil Nadu: Second (15.64%)
Meat Production (2023-24)
Estimated total meat production: 10.25 million tonnes.
10-year growth rate: 4.85%.
Breakdown of Meat Production:
Poultry: 48.96% > Cattle: 2.6% > Buffalo: 18.09% > Sheep: 11.13% > Goat: 15.5% > Pig: 3.72%.
