Genus (jumping spiders): Tenkana
New Species: Tenkana jayamangali
Found at Devarayanadurga reserve forest of Karnataka.
It was named after the nearby Jayamangali River.
Found in southern India (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh) and northern Sri Lanka.
Prefers drier areas and ground habitats, unlike related species that inhabit forests.
Reclassification: Includes two previously known species:
Tenkana manu (found in south India and Sri Lanka)
Tenkana arkavathi (from Karnataka)
"Tenkana" comes from the Kannada word for "south," reflecting its geographic distribution.
