Who was King Krishnadevaraya?
He was the ruler of the Tuluva dynasty of Vijayanagar empire (1509-29 AD).
His rule was characterised by expansion and consolidation.
He defeated the sultans of Bijapur, Golconda, the Bahmani Sultanate, and the Gajapatis of Odisha to become the dominant ruler of the peninsula
He is credited with building some fine temples and adding impressive gopurams to many important south Indian temples.
He also founded a suburban township near Vijayanagar called Nagalapuram after his mother.
Krishna Deva Raya was also known as Kannada Rajya Rama Ramana, Andhra Bhoja, and Mooru Rayara Ganda (King of Three Kings)
During his reign, Portuguese travellers Domingo Paes and Fernao Nuniz also visited the Vijayanagara Empire.
The court of Sri Krishna Devaraya (1509-29) known as Bhuvana Vijayam was adorned by eight great poets of Telugu popularly known as “Astha Digaajas”
Among these eight poets, Allasani Peddana is considered to be the greatest.
He is given the title of Andhra Kavita Pitamaha (the father of Telugu poetry).
He composed a work on statecraft in Telugu known as the Amuktamalyada.
Other works in sanskrit includes : Jambavati Kalyana, Madalasa Charita, Satyavadu Parinaya, Rasamanjari
