Battle of Walong
It was the only counterattack India could manage in the 1962 war against China.
Indian Army successfully halted the advance of Chinese forces for 27 days.
The 11 Infantry Brigade, consisting of multiple regiments, was tasked with defending the area.
Indian soldiers, vastly outnumbered (800 against over 4,000 Chinese soldiers), fought bravely with limited resources.
The Chinese were eventually forced to commit additional troops (about 15,000).
The battle is remembered for the heroism and determination of Indian soldiers.
Walong is also the easternmost town in mainland India, located on banks of Lohit River.
