The changes to the eligibility criteria of BJP’s ‘Subhadra Yojana’, a key election promise, have led to a controversy with the main Opposition parties in Odisha
In the run-up to the Assembly elections the party manifesto said, under the scheme, every woman will receive a cash voucher of ₹50,000, which can be encashed over two years
However, the revised eligibility criteria has fixed the age bracket of beneficiaries between 21 and 60, and increased the period from two years to five.
Subhadra Yojana
The scheme is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17
It is a flagship scheme under the Odisha government in which there are over 1 crore women beneficiaries
Under this, women will be paid a total of Rs 10,000 per year in two installments of Rs 5000 each.
Women aged between 21 and 60 years will be eligible for this scheme.
The eligible female beneficiary will get a total of Rs 50,000 in five years.
Financially strong, government job holders, income tax payers and people receiving assistance of Rs 1,500 or more monthly or Rs 18,000 or more under any government scheme will not be eligible for Subhadra assistance.
Beneficiaries will also be issued a Subhadra debit card.
Under the scheme, 100 beneficiaries with maximum digital transactions will also be identified in each Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Body.
They will be given Rs 500 as additional incentive.
