Group of Four (G4) countries called for urgent reform of the United Nations (UN), seeking permanent membership and reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC)
The meetings, including a joint session of the L69 and C-10 groups (group of 10 African countries), highlighted a growing consensus among nations on the importance of reform in the UNSC
L69 countries
It consists of 32 developing nations (including India) from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (Small Island Developing States).
It firmly stands for expansion in both the permanent and non-permanent membership of UNSC
Aims to better reflect contemporary world realities, and achieve a more accountable, representative, transparent and relevant Security Council.
It derives its name from the draft document number "L.69", tabled in 2007-08, which led to the initiation of the Intergovernmental Negotiation (IGN) process.
G4 countries
The G4 is a grouping of Brazil, Germany, India and Japan which are aspiring to become permanent members of the UNSC.
The G4 countries are supporting each other’s bids for permanent membership of the UNSC.
The G4 nations traditionally meet on the sidelines of the annual high-level UN General Assembly session
