The Union Cabinet on Monday approved seven big-ticket schemes for the agriculture sector with a total outlay of ₹14,235.30 crore
The 7 schemes
Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM)
The DAM is a consolidated database on a single platform linking multiple databases and platforms from different Union Territories and States, as well as Ministries and Departments.
Total outlay of ₹2.817 crore.
It comprises of an
‘Agri Stack’, which will function as a registry of farmers, village land maps and crops;
the ‘Krishi Decision Support System’ to create a comprehensive geospatial set-up to unify remote sensing-based information on crops, soil, weather and water resources;
‘Soil Profile Mapping’ to create detailed soil-profile maps on a 1:10,000 scale for about 142 million hectares of agricultural land.
2. Crop Science for Food and Nutritional Security
Objective: Enhance climate resilience and food security.
Outlay: ₹3,979 crore.
Goal: Prepare farmers for future challenges and ensure food security by 2047.
3. Strengthening Agricultural Education, Management, and Social Sciences
Objective: Improve education and research in agriculture.
Outlay: ₹2,291 crore.
Goal: Equip students and researchers to tackle current and future agricultural challenges.
4. Sustainable Livestock Health and Production
Objective: Boost incomes from livestock and dairy.
Outlay: ₹1,702 crore.
Goal: Enhance health and productivity in the livestock sector.
5. Sustainable Development of Horticulture
Objective: Promote various types of horticulture crops.
Outlay: ₹1,129.30 crore.
Focus Areas: Tropical, sub-tropical, temperate crops, root and tuber crops, vegetables, floriculture, and mushrooms.
6. Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)
Objective: Support agricultural research and extension services.
Outlay: ₹1,202 crore.
Goal: Strengthen local agricultural support and innovation.
7. Natural Resource Management
Objective: Manage and conserve natural resources in agriculture.
Outlay: ₹1,115 crore.
Goal: Ensure sustainable use of natural resources in farming.
