The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has marked dues worth ₹76,293 crore as ‘difficult to recover’ (DTR) at the end of 2023-24
It is 4.1% more than the ₹73,287 crore in the previous year.
DTR dues are those which could not be recovered even after exhausting all modes of recovery
SEBI’s power
Section 28A of the SEBI Act 1992 and the corresponding provisions of SCRA 1956 and the Depositories Act 1996 empower the SEBI to recover monies from persons who fail to pay the penalty imposed by an adjudicating officer.
The regulator can also recover monies if they fail to :
comply with any directions of the Board for refund of money
comply with the direction of disgorgement order and
pay fee due to the Board
