The Saurashtra Basin is a geological region in Western India, covered largely by Deccan Traps, created by volcanic eruptions at the Western Ghats during the Cretaceous period, 66 million years ago
It spans an area of 240,000 square kilometers, including parts of western Gujarat and the north of Mumbai coastline.
Known for its potential in both conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
The basin was formed by the separation of India from Madagascar around 100 million years ago.
