Pacific Islands Forum
The Pacific Islands Forum is the region’s premier political and economic policy organisation.
It was founded in 1971 as the South Pacific Forum (SPF), and changed its name in 1999 to "Pacific Islands Forum",
It comprises 18 members: Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
The Forum’s Pacific Vision is for a region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity
It is a United Nations General Assembly observer.
Tonga
Tonga, is an island country in Polynesia, part of Oceania.
The country has 171 islands – of which 45 are inhabited.
Its scattered in the southern Pacific Ocean.
It is surrounded by Fiji and Wallis and Futuna (France) to the northwest, Samoa to the northeast, New Caledonia (France) and Vanuatu to the west, Niue (the nearest foreign territory) to the east, and Kermadec (New Zealand) to the southwest.
