Ernesto is the fifth named storm and the third hurricane of this year's Atlantic hurricane season.

The closest land outside the territory is in the American state of North Carolina, to the west-northwest.
Bermuda is an archipelago consisting of 181 islands, although the most significant islands are connected by bridges and appear to form one landmass.
The islands have been permanently inhabited since 1612 when an English settlement was established at St. George's.
