Why in news
Current standard treatment for malaria.
Problem: Emergence of artemisinin-resistance (ART-R) in Plasmodium falciparum parasites (eastern Africa).
Threatens the effectiveness of ACTs.
Proposed Solution: Triple ACTs (TACTs)
Combine an artemisinin derivative with two partner drugs (instead of one in ACTs).
Proven effective against malaria in Asia.
Implication: TACTs could be a potential strategy to counter ART-R in Africa.
