Why in news
Hamas fired a barrage of rockets from Gaza that set off air-raid sirens as far away as Tel Aviv for the first time in months in a show of resilience over seven months into Israel’s massive air, sea and ground offensive.
There were no reports of casualties or damage in what appeared to be the first long-range rocket attack from Gaza since January.
The Hamas’s military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, took responsibility for the attack.
Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv-Yafo usually referred to as just Tel Aviv, is the most populous city in the Gush Dan metropolitan area of Israel.
Located on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline, it is the economic and technological center of the country.
If East Jerusalem is considered part of Israel, Tel Aviv is the country's second-most-populous city, after Jerusalem; if not, Tel Aviv is the most populous city, ahead of West Jerusalem
