The 125-foot statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan was inaugurated by the Prime Minister
The 'Statue of Valour' was unveiled by the PM at the Lachit Borphukan Maidam Development Project at Hollongapar in Assam’s Jorhat
The height of the statute, built by Ram Vanji Sutar, is 84 feet and it is set on a pedestal of 41 feet, making the structure 125 feet tall
The park encompasses the maidam, or earthen pyramid, where he was buried after the battle.
Lachit Borphukan is known for his leadership in the 1671 'Battle of Saraighat' that thwarted a drawn-out attempt by the mighty Mughal forces, led by Raja Ramsingh-I, to take back Assam
The park is almost as far from the eastern edge of the Jorhat town along NH-715 as the Sukhapha Samannay Kshetra is from its western edge
Temple is dedicated to Swargadeo (or emperor) Sukapha, who came from China’s Yunnan to establish the Ahom dynasty that ruled Assam for 600 years until the British takeover in the 1800s, this represents Ahom pride as much as the Lachit statue park
