Cheetah Gamini on Sunday gave birth to five cubs in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district.
The total number of cheetahs in the country to 26, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said.
Taking to X, Mr. Singh said, “High Five, Kuno! Female cheetah Gamini, aged about 5 years, brought from Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa, has given birth to 5 cubs today.”
The number of cheetah cubs born in India now stands at 13, he added.
This is the fourth cheetah litter on Indian soil and the first litter of cheetahs brought from South Africa, the Minister said.
Kuno National Park
Kuno National Park is a national park and wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh.
It is situated in the Vindhyan hills of Central India, covering an area of 748.8 square kilometers .
The park was established in 1981 as a wildlife sanctuary and designated a national park in 2018.
It is named after the Kuno River, which flows through the park.
Kuno National Park is an important habitat for a variety of flora and fauna.
The park is home to dry deciduous forests, grasslands, and wetlands.
Some of the animals found in the park include spotted deer, nilgai, chinkara, blackbuck, sloth bear, leopard, and hyena.
The park is perhaps most famous for its recent cheetah reintroduction project.
