The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the project for the design and development of India’s fifth-generation fighter jet.
Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), to be undertaken by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, defence sources confirmed on Thursday.
The AMCA is envisaged as a 25-tonne twin-engine stealth aircraft with an internal weapons bay and diverterless supersonic intake which has been developed in India for the first time.
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., the production agency for the project, has initiated manufacturing activities.
Cabinet Committee on Security and functions
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is a critical body in the Government of India.
It functions as the highest decision-making body on all matters relating to national security and defense.
The CCS is chaired by the Prime Minister of India and includes the following members:
Minister of Defence
Minister of Home Affairs
Minister of Finance
Minister of External Affairs
These key ministerial positions ensure that all aspects of national security are considered during decision-making, including military, internal security, financial resources, and foreign relations.
The CCS's responsibilities include:
Discussing, debating, and making final decisions on senior appointments in the national security apparatus.
Formulating and overseeing India's defense policy and expenditure.
Addressing all matters related to India's national security, including border disputes, internal threats, and military operations.
