A comprehensive project to rejuvenate Retteri Lake, which is part of the chain of waterbodies in west Chennai, has commenced.
The ₹43.19-crore project, which would also increase the storage capacity of the waterbody, is one of the major works taken up on the waterbody sprawling on over 400 acres.
Retteri Lake
Retteri Lake is a lake located in the Kolathur area of Chennai, India.
It is a popular spot for bird watching and has been declared as an eco-tourism spot by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The lake is home to a variety of birds, including pelicans, cormorants, and kingfishers.
It is also a popular spot for boating and fishing.
The lake is spread over an area of 5.42 square kilometers and has a water storage capacity of 12.5 million cubic meters.
The lake is fed by the surplus water from the Korattur Lake and the Ambattur Lake.
The water from the lake is used for irrigation and drinking water purposes.
The lake is surrounded by a number of residential and commercial establishments.
The lake is also home to a number of temples and mosques.
