What are Palaeo Proxies?
Palaeo proxies are indirect pieces of evidence that scientists use to reconstruct past climate and environmental conditions.
Since we can't directly measure climate from the distant past ,these proxies act as clues that help us understand how Earth's climate has changed over time.
Some examples of palaeo proxies:
Ice cores: These are long cylinders of ice drilled from glaciers and polar ice sheets.
Trapped within the ice are air bubbles and layers of different isotopic compositions that provide information about past atmospheric
conditions, including temperature, greenhouse gas concentrations, and volcanic activity.
Tree rings: The width and density of tree rings can reveal past climate variations and growth conditions of the trees.
Wider rings generally indicate warmer and wetter years, while narrower rings suggest colder and drier periods.
Coral records: The growth patterns and isotopic compositions of coral skeletons offer information about past sea surface temperatures and ocean conditions.
