President Droupadi Murmu on Friday presented the President’s Colour to the Pune-based Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC).
The President’s Colour, also known as “Rashtrapati ka Nishaan”, is the highest honour bestowed upon any military unit.
The AFMC was established on May 1, 1948.
What is President’s Colour ?
The President's Colour is the highest honour that the Supreme Commander, President of India, bestows on a unit for its exceptional service to the Nation.
It's a symbol of yeoman service rendered and would motivate the officers and men of the Indian Navy.
The President's Colour is a silken crimson banner embroidered with the National Emblem and the inscription 'Rashtrapati ka Nishan’.
It is awarded to military units that have displayed exceptional gallantry, devotion to duty and rendered distinguished service to the nation.
The first President's Colour was awarded to the Indian Air Force in 1950.
Since then, the award has been bestowed on all the three arms of the Indian Armed Forces.
The award has also been bestowed on some paramilitary forces and other organizations.
The President's Colour is a coveted award and is considered to be a badge of honour.
