Cabinet approves extension announced by Prime Minister at poll rally in Chhattisgarh; 81.35 crore people will benefit from scheme that entails an expenditure of ₹11.8 lakh crore
The scheme to provides free foodgrains to 81.35 crore people would be extended by five years, the Union Cabinet took a formal decision on Wednesday to continue it from January 1.
The scheme was to end on December 31.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, It is a government program that provides free food grains to low-income households in India.
The scheme was launched in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It provides an additional 5 kg of wheat or rice per person per month to all ration card holders, including those with Antyodaya ration cards and priority ration cards.
The scheme was initially scheduled to end in March 2022, but it has been extended several times.
