After fighting it out at various platforms, before and after the elections including in the Assembly, the A. Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in Telangana now plans to ‘expose’ the shortcomings and the alleged corruption by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government in the Kaleshwaram project through a powerpoint presentation at the site.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu will be making the presentation at the Medigadda barrage on December 29.
Kaleshwaram project
The Kaleshwaram Lift Project is a lift irrigation project built on the Godavari River in the state of Telangana.
It was started in 2016 and completed in 2019.
The total cost of the project is ₹80,000 crore (US$11 billion).
The main objective of this project is to lift water from Godavari river and irrigate 45 lakh acres in 13 districts of Telangana state.
240 TMC of water will be lifted through this project.
169 TMC water is used for irrigation, 30 TMC water for drinking water for Hyderabad city, 16 TMC water for industrial purposes and 10 TMC water for drinking water for rural villages.
This project is one of the largest lift irrigation projects in India.
It has become crucial for agricultural development and economic development of Telangana state.
