The Education Ministry is gearing up to restart the fourth phase of the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN).

GIAN Program
The Union government has spent at least ₹126 crore in payment to support foreign faculty’s travel and honorarium since the inception of GIAN.
Each foreign faculty member is paid a sum of $8000 (₹7 lakh) for a week of teaching.
$12,000 (₹12 lakh) for conducting a two-week course.
As many as 1,073 academics have taught the one-week course, while 553 experts have held two-week courses.
After the evaluation, Sources in the Ministry said the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) recommended GAIN continuation.
According to the data, 1,772 courses were delivered till October 2023.
Since the beginning of the scheme in 2015-16, 1,612 foreign faculty members have visited the country to deliver courses from 59 countries.
The GIAN is a program initiated by the Ministry of Education.
GIAN is to enhance the quality of higher education in India.
It aims to tap into the international talent pool of eminent scientists, engineers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and Nobel Laureates to bring world-class academic and research expertise to Indian institutions.
It provides financial support for short-term or semester-long courses, workshops, and seminars conducted by renowned international experts.
The GIAN program has played a significant role in enhancing the quality of higher education in India and contributing to the country's scientific and technological progress.
