White-cheeked Macaque
The white-cheeked macaque (Macaca leucogenys) is a species of macaque.
Its found only in Mêdog County in southeastern Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India.
It is a critically endangered species, with a population estimated to be less than 2,500 individuals.
White-cheeked macaques are medium-sized primates, with males up to 14 kg and females weighing 10 kg.
They have a distinctive white patch of fur on each cheek, and their fur is otherwise mostly black or brown.
White-cheeked macaques are arboreal animals, and they spend most of their time in trees.
They are omnivores, and their diet consists of fruits, leaves, flowers, insects, and small animals.
White-cheeked macaques live in social groups of up to 50 individuals.
The groups are led by a dominant male, and the females and young males form a hierarchy below him.
White-cheeked macaques are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
