Agniveer is the term used for recruits who are inducted into the Indian Armed Forces under the Agnipath Scheme.
The Agnipath Scheme is a new recruitment scheme that was launched by the Government of India in 2022.
Under this scheme, recruits are recruited for a period of four years, with the option of applying for a permanent commission in the Armed Forces after four years.
Agniveers are trained in the same way as regular soldiers, and they serve alongside regular soldiers.
The Agnipath Scheme is now the only way to join the Indian Armed Forces.
In the first year of the scheme, the Armed Forces are planning to recruit 46,000 Agniveers.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is responsible for the Agnipath Scheme in India.
The MoD is responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of the Indian Armed Forces.
It is also responsible for the development and procurement of military equipment.
