Radio Saanthwanam 90.4 FM as the humble efforts of Pain and Palliative Care Trust, a totally charitable organization, servicing more than 10000 cancer patients who are either undergoing palliative care or terminally ill.
The trust provide medicines free of cost to all deserving patients and do not undertake any sort of service on a payment basis.
The expenditure is met from the voluntary contributions made by philanthropists and humanists.
They run pain and palliative clinics in various parts of Kollam District, Kerala regularly where patients or their relatives come and collect medicines prescribed by qualified doctors and specialists.
Government of India had been kind enough to sanction a Community Radio project to be operated from the City Corporation limits of Kollam.

Role of Radio Saanthwanam 90.4 FM in Palliative Care
Radio Saanthwanam 90.4 FM, perhaps a first-of-its-kind initiative in Kerala, engaging persons undergoing palliative care to deal with their social isolation, anxiety and pain.
The radio aims at empowering terminally ill persons or those undergoing palliative care through a slew of programmes.
Radio Saanthwanam will be transmitting a wide range of programmes enabling social interactions and enhancing patients’ quality of life.
Day-to-day needs and information for the patients.
Among the 10,000-plus registered patients, the majority belongs to the BPL (below the poverty line) category.
Through the radio station, all information regarding free clinical services and medication can be easily shared.
The radio can also give effective directions to caregivers attending the patients.
The trust is also planning to integrate various services to ensure the well-being of patients.
In the next phase, they will be bringing in experts so that the patients and caregivers can directly interact with him.
There will be multiple informative and entertainment programmes with provisions for patients, family members and the public to contribute content.
It will be a platform for all persons belonging to the broadcast area to showcase their talent. The idea is to generate the content from local audience.
