The state of Bihar is all set to get its 2nd tiger reserve in Kaimur district by end of the year.
The 1st tiger reserve is Valmiki tiger reserve in west champaran district.
The state official are waitng for the approval from National Tiger Conservation Authority”s (NTCA).
Valmiki Tiger Reserve
This tiger reserve is forms the easternmost extent of the Himalayan Terai forests in India.
According to the Tiger Census, 2018, the number of tigers in Valmiki Tiger Reserve is 54.
Wild mammals found in the forests of Valmiki Tiger Reserve include tiger, sloth bear, leopard, wild dog, bison, wild boar etc.
The forest contains a mix of bhabar and terai tracts and is located in the Gangetic Plains bio-geographic zone.
In 1990, Valmiki National Park was established.
Kaimur plateau
Kaimur district comprise of Kaimur plateau and plains on west.
Main rivers - Karmanasa and Durgavati.
This dense forest cover with Tiger, Leopard and Chinkaras.
Kaimur WLS spans 986 sq km.
Till 1995 tiger makes there presence regularly in the kaimur hills, after a gap in 2017 they reappeared.
