World’s Hottest Ever Day
2023 July 3, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, according to data from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction.
The average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), surpassing the August 2016 record of 16.92C (62.46F) as heat waves sizzled around the world.
Scientists say that the increase in greenhouse gases is responsible for rising temperatures as they trap heat.
Normally, these greenhouse gases help keep the Earth's average temperature around 15 degrees Celsius.
But when the greenhouse gases are over the average limit it leads to global warming.
Scientists also blame El Nino currents for the increased temperature.
El Nino patterns move heat to colder regions, making the average temperature go up.
El Nino can also cause global warming because warm water vapours rise from the ocean due to the El Nino currents, and these vapours heat up the atmosphere.
