Survey at Corbett Tiger Reserve
About 275 bird species, including two critically endangered, four vulnerable ones and two endangered species, were counted during a survey at Corbett Tiger Reserve.
As per the report, two species, namely white-rumped vulture and red-headed vulture, considered critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list.
Two endangered species — Pallas’s fish-eagle, Egyptian vulture were also counted by the researchers in the survey.
Four vulnerable bird species — great hornbill, great slaty woodpecker, grey-crowned prinia and river tern — have also been counted in the survey.
About 10 near-threatened bird species — river lapwing, red-breasted parakeet, oriental darter, lesser fish-eagle, Himalayan griffon, great thick-knee, gray-headed fish-eagle, black-necked stork, Asian woolley-necked stork and Alexandrine parakeet — have also been found at the reserve.
White-rumped vulture
It is an Old World vulture native to South and Southeast Asia.
It has been listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Red-headed vulture
The red-headed vulture (Sarcogyps calvus), also known as the Asian king vulture, Indian black vulture or Pondicherry vulture,is an Old World vulture.
It is mainly found in the Indian subcontinent.
It has been listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Pallas’s fish-eagle
It is also known as Pallas's sea eagle or band-tailed fish eagle.
It breeds in the east Palearctic in Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, China, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan.
It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Egyptian vulture
It also called the white scavenger vulture or pharaoh's chicken, is a small Old World vulture and the only member of the genus Neophron.
It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Great hornbill
The great hornbill (Buceros bicornis), also known as the concave-casqued hornbill, great Indian hornbill or great pied hornbill, is one of the larger members of the hornbill family.
It occurs in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
Great slaty woodpecker
It is found across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
It is the largest known species of woodpecker.
It has been listed as Vulnerable.
Grey-crowned prinia
It is found in Bhutan, northern India and Nepal.
It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
River tern
It is a resident breeder along inland rivers from Iran east into the Indian Subcontinent and further to Myanmar to Thailand, where it is uncommon.
Unlike most Sterna terns, it is almost exclusively found on freshwater, rarely venturing even to tidal creeks.
It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
