Sorowako
Soroako, also spelled Sorowako, is a small mining town in the centre of Sulawesi island in Indonesia.
It is the location of the Sorowako Mine, which is the largest open-pit mine in Indonesia, owned by PT Inco, a subsidiary of the Canadian based mining company Vale Inco.
Sorowako represents one of the largest nickel reserve in Indonesia having estimated reserves of 109.4 million tonnes of ore grading 1.79% nickel.
The country holds the world's largest nickel reserves and will account for roughly half of global supply growth through to 2025, on the back of growing demand for the batteries used to power electric vehicles.
