Shakambari Festival
The annual Shakambari Festival held at the world famous Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple, Andhra Pradesh in Ashada month.
During the three-day annual festival, Goddess Durga takes the form of Mother Shakambari - she is adorned with green leaves and vegetables.
Ashadam, the fourth month in the Telugu calendar, is considered to worship Goddess Kanaka Durga.
Devotees, mainly women in large numbers, visit the temple and offer ‘Ashada Saree’ which includes ‘bonam’ (pot filled with cooked rice).
Goddess Shakambari Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti and is worshipped in many parts of India.
It is believed that she feeds those who are hungry with vegetarian food. She is Mother Earth who suffices hunger.
Shakambari Ma is known as ‘the bearer of the greens’ – Shaka means vegetables and Ambari means who bears.
What are core sectors of India?
Eight core sectors are: Coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, steel, cement and electricity.
These comprise 40.27% of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
The eight core sector industries in decreasing order of their weightage: Refinery Products> Electricity> Steel> Coal> Crude Oil> Natural Gas> Cement> Fertilizers.
Decline in core sector growth pace
The pace of growth of eight key infrastructure sectors slackened to 4.3% in May on account of a decline in the production of crude oil, natural gas and electricity, according to government data.
The core sector growth stood at 19.3% in May 2022.
During April-May this fiscal, the output growth of these eight sectors slowed down to 4.3% against 14.3%.
The output of crude oil shrank by 1.9% in May.
Similarly, the production of natural gas and electricity dipped by 0.3% each.
The growth rate of coal output declined to 7.2% y-o-y from 33.5%.
The rate of growth in the production of fertilizer, steel and cement slowed down to 9.7%, 9.2% and 15.5%, respectively, compared with 22.9%, 15.1% and 26.2%.
