The PM Vishwakarma scheme aims to empower traditional craftspeople and artisans by preserving and enhancing their skills, providing financial support, and integrating them into broader economic value chains.

Outlay: ₹13,000 crore.
Scheme announced by PM Narendra Modi during Independence Day speech.
Duration: 2023-24 to 2027-28.
Objective of the Scheme:
Strengthen and nurture the "Guru-Shishya parampara" (teacher-student tradition).
Focus on traditional craftspeople and artisans.
Enhance traditional skills practiced by artisans.
Improve product quality and reach.
Integrate artisans into domestic and global value chains.
Covered Trades:
18 traditional trades included.
Trades such as carpenter, blacksmith, goldsmith, potter, tailor, and more.
Basket/mat/broom maker, coir weaver, barber, fishing net maker, and others.
Benefits for Artisans:
Artisans receive PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
Credit support: ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and ₹2 lakh (second tranche).
Concessional interest rate: 5%.
Two types of skilling programs: basic and advanced.
Stipend of ₹500 per day during skill training.
Scope of Coverage:
Scheme to cover 30 lakh families.
Encompasses a period of five years.
