Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav released the details of the new discoveries and records in Kolkata.
The faunal discoveries are compiled in a publication titled Animal Discoveries - New Species and New Records 2023 by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI).
The floral discoveries are contained in Plant Discoveries 2022 published by the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
The ZSI Director highlighted that 2022 witnessed the highest number of new faunal discoveries in the last 10 years.
Minister Yadav emphasized the importance of protecting faunal diversity for the country's sake.
The faunal diversity of India now stands at 103,922 species.
