Kerch Bridge
The Crimean Bridge also called Kerch Strait Bridge or Kerch Bridge, is a pair of parallel bridges, one for a four-lane road and one for a double-track railway, spanning the Kerch Strait between the Taman Peninsula of Krasnodar Krai in Russia and the Kerch Peninsula of Crimea.
Built by the Russian Federation after the annexation of Crimea at the start of 2014.
It has a length of 19 km making it the longest bridge in Europe and the longest bridge ever constructed by Russia.
What is the strategic importance of the bridge?
The bridge is important for Russia for symbolic, administrative and operational reasons.
Kerch Bridge remains a critical logistical supply link for the Russian troops in the south.
Ukrainian troops want to make deep thrusts into the Russian-held territories of the southeast reaching the Sea of Azov coast.
Which would leave Crimea further vulnerable to future Ukrainian attacks, leaving the Kerch Bridge the only link between mainland Russia and the peninsula.
