India's first indigenously developed mRNA vaccine “GEMCOVAC-OM” against the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The vaccine will initially be available as a booster or "precaution dose" and not for those who have already received three doses.
Expert committees in India have not permitted the administration of a fourth dose, unlike in the United States and Europe.
GEMCOVAC-OM is the only mRNA vaccine approved in India specifically targeting the Omicron variant.

The mRNA vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna are bivalent, effective against both the Wuhan strain and Omicron strains.
GEMCOVAC-OM is a monovalent vaccine, following the World Health Organization's recommendation for a monovalent vaccine to address the current variant.
