Nishat Garden
Nishat Bagh is a terraced Mughal garden built on the eastern side of the Dal Lake, close to Srinagar in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is the second largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley.
The largest in size is the Shalimar Bagh, which is also located on the bank of the Dal Lake.
‘Nishat Bagh’ in Urdu, which means “Garden of Joy,” “Garden of Gladness” and “Garden of Delight.”
Located on the bank of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop.
The Bagh was designed and built in 1633 by Asif Khan, elder brother of Nur Jahan.
It has twelve terraces representing twelve Zodiacal signs.
Even though the layout of Nishat Bagh was based on the basic conceptual model of the Persian gardens, it had to be remodelled to fit the topographic and water source conditions at the site chosen in the Kashmir valley.
Dal Lake
Dal is a lake in Srinagar.
It is an urban lake, the second largest lake in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is integral to tourism and recreation in the Kashmir valley and is variously known as the "Lake of Flowers", "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir" or "Srinagar's Jewel".
During the winter season, the temperature can sometimes reach as low as −11 °C (12 °F), freezing the lake.
The lake covers an area of 18 square kilometres (6.9 sq mi) and is part of a natural wetland which covers 21.1 square kilometres (8.1 sq mi), including its floating gardens.
The floating gardens, known as "Rad" in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August.
The houseboats (Shikaras) are closely associated with Dal Lake which provide accommodation to tourists in Srinagar.
