An indigenous beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile called Astra was successfully test-fired from the Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA) off the coast of Goa.
The Astra missile was launched from the aircraft at an altitude of approximately 20,000 ft.
A beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) is a type of guided missile specifically designed for engaging and destroying airborne targets, such as enemy aircraft, at distances that exceed the visual range of the pilot or operator.
In other words, BVRAAMs are missiles that can be launched from an aircraft, a ground-based launcher, or a naval platform, and they have the capability to strike targets that are beyond the direct line of sight of the person launching the missile
