According to Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act (or AMASR Act) an ancient monument encompasses various structures like buildings, monuments, erections, as well as other features such as tumuli or burial places, caves, rock sculptures, inscriptions, and monoliths.
These structures should hold historical, archaeological, or artistic significance to qualify as ancient monuments under the Act.
For an entity to be considered an ancient monument, it must have existed for a minimum of one hundred years.
The definition of a monument, as outlined in the Act, extends to include not only the actual physical remains of the structure but also the site where it once stood.
Additionally, the areas of land surrounding the ancient monument, which might be necessary for activities like enclosing, protecting, or covering it, are also categorized as part of the ancient monument.
The routes or pathways that allow access to the monument are also encompassed within the term "ancient monument" as per the Act.
